Every heifer was artificially inseminated on March 15 to Boyd Concrete 3425, one of the Angus breed’s proven calving-ease sires. Concrete is known for producing light birth weight calves without sacrificing growth, muscle, or maternal quality. Following the AI breeding, the heifers were exposed to Angus bulls for two estrous cycles. They were then turned in with Mini Hereford bulls for the final month as insurance.
