North America Gets First Peek At Redesigned Massey Ferguson 5S Tractors, Aimed At Livestock, Hay & Dairy Operations

The redesigned Massey Ferguson 5S Series of compact tractors that parent company AGCO introduced in December 2020 is making its North American debut this week at the 2021 Farm Progress Show in Decatur, Illinois, running through September 2. Available in five models ranging from 105 to 145 horsepower (78 to 108 kilowatts), Massey Ferguson says the series provides best-in-class performance and is ideally suited to working on hay, dairy, and livestock operations. MF 5S buyers can choose either the Class or Deluxe trim level and can select the Essential, Efficient, or Exclusive specification.

“The 5S really blows the competition away with its high-performance driveline, high levels of comfort, and wide choice of equipment and options. It can truly tackle any challenge or task on your farm,” says Massey Ferguson North America Vice President Darren Parker. “With substantial power, maximum agility, well-engineered quality, and a new distinct style, the 5S is a true utility player on the farm.”

    An Eye On Visibility

The 5S Series models are powered by AGCO Power’s new four-cylinder, 4.4-liter Tier 4 Final engine with a compact all-in-one aftertreatment system. Transmission options include a 16x16 speed Dyna-4 or a 24x24 Dyna-6 gearbox. Both provide optional creeper gears, an optional Brake-to-Neutral function that simultaneously operates the clutch when the brake is pressed, and the Super-Eco function that reduces fuel consumption by reaching 25 mph at as low as 1,530 engine rpms. A new front linkage design provides up to a 6,600-pound (2,994-kilogram) lift capacity, and the rear linkage has an up to 10,300-lb (4,672-kg) capacity.

Massey Ferguson says the series’ new steep-nose bonnet is the narrowest in this market segment and provides excellent visibility down to 13 feet (4 meters) ahead of the tractor. That visibility comes in handy when the 5S is paired with an MF FL Series loader, available as factory-fitted or loader-ready options. Other options include an LED light package, Standard or Visio Roof cab positions, multiple hydraulic system choices, and joystick options for loader operation. Other features include a new Datatronic 5 console, armrest design, and front-axle suspension, plus availability to MF Guide, MF Section, MF Rate Control, MF Connect, and other technologies.
