How To Find The Right Cattle For Sale
Searches on LivestockMarket.com can be as wide or narrow as you want. At the bottom of the Cattle page, you’ll find drop-down menus that allow you to quickly search by Animal, Type-Class, or State. These menus are great for broad searches, but for more detailed searches, use the faceted search features that run along the left side of the page under Applied Filters. Here you will find criteria to help you limit your search to find the right cattle via private treaty or auction.
Faceted searches allow you to refine cattle searches based on Type-Class, Average Weight, Head Count, Registered, Frame, Quality, Show Stock, Crossbred/Purebred, Breed, State, Condition, Value Added Programs, Implanted, Price Per Head, Price Per CWT, Registry Name, Sex, Fertility, and Transaction Type. You aren’t limited to using one search feature at a time. You can use any combination of search filters to find the precise cattle you want to buy.
Find Specific Cattle Varieties
Finding specific cattle is easy. On the left side of the page under Applied Filters, you can select any combination of features you are looking for. Click Type-Class and you can narrow your search to commercial beef, commercial dairy, registered/seed stock beef, registered/seed stock dairy, show beef, or show dairy. Within types you can further limit your search to categories such as bucket calves, bulls, cow and calf pairs, feeder/stocker, heifers, and more.
You can also search for specific breeds. You’ll find well-known breeds such as Angus, Beefmaster, Brahman, Charolais, Hereford, Holstein, Jersey, and Wagyu as well as rarer breeds. Select one or a combination of breeds. Do you keep a purebred herd? You can filter for that.
Other criteria for limiting searches includes:
- Show Stock
- Crossbred / Purebred
- Registered
- State - to find cattle for sale near you
- Frame - subdivided into Large, Moderate To Large, Moderate, Small To Moderate, and Small
- Condition - Fleshy, Medium Flesh, or Thin / Green
- Quality - 1, Choice, or Fancy
- Value Added Programs - if stated, such as home raised, owner-certified natural, non-GMO, and NHTC, among other options
- Implanted
- Registry Name - if applicable, such as American Angus Association, American Brahman Breeders Association, American International Charolais Association, American Wagyu Association, Beefmaster Breeders Universal, and Red Angus Association of America, among many others
- Sex - Heifers, Mixed, or Steers
- Fertility - Not Tested, Tested Fertile, To Be Tested, or Will Guarantee Fertile
- Transaction Type - For Sale, For Lease, or Auction Listings (that is, sheep that are cross-listed on AuctionTime.com)
Weight, Head Count & Price
You can also modify your search by head count, weight, or price per head and price per CWT if you have a set budget upfront. To find cattle for private treaty sale or auction within a specific range for weight, head count, or price, simply expand any of those items under Applied Filters, enter the desired ranges, and click the Search button.

Once you have narrowed down your search for the type of cattle you’re interested in, click on any listing to access more information. You’ll see details about pricing, weight (average and total), and any other information the seller includes. Many listings include a thorough description and multiple photos and/or videos.
Seller Information, Shipping & More
LivestockMarket.com provides additional tools for buyers. See something of interest, but have questions? You’ll find seller contact information in the listings, including how to contact via email, by phone, and/or in person (depending on what information the seller provides). Buyers can also view all livestock, hay, and/or straw for sale from a certain seller and make an offer. Click the Compare check box (located in the upper right corner) on multiple listings to highlight differences among the assets you’ve selected.
