Description
Goose is such a sweet boy; he has never shown an aggressive tendency; he just wants to be close to people when they are around. He is talkative and a gentle boy when being fed or handled. Goose can be a little spooky, but once he gets a good look at something, he chills out. He reared once while under saddle, spooking as he rode through brush and thick foliage. I've done a lot of desensitizing groundwork with him, and he handles plastic bags, sudden movements, things being tossed at him, and jumping around like a champ. He also handles being around tractors well. Goose stands remarkably well for the farrier, the vet, and any care I have given him. Goose loads easily and trailers just as well. I would like to preface with this though: he is NOT a beginner horse, and he needs an experienced rider.
Goose is a green broke horse under saddle. I haven't had enough time to work with him consistently, and he deserves a home that can dedicate time to him several times a week. I do ride him with a martingale. He does not seem to neck rein very well, but he has a hypersensitive response to leg and hand cues. He responds better to squeezing pressure on the legs rather than tapping with the heel. Goose is excellent at lunging and responds well to voice commands such as “walk” and “trot.” He can be ridden either western or English, though I primarily rode him western. His previous owner did ride him English, and I think he might have been jumped. Goose is usually easy to catch. Sometimes, he walks a few steps away when he sees you approach with a halter, but if you tell him “whoa,” he will stop. When walking him, he doesn’t lag behind or get too far ahead.
Goose is a rescue I came across in February 2022. He came to me with fluid in his left front knee, but we fully healed that lameness with PEMF (pulse electromagnetic therapy) shortly after his rescue. He can now move freely at a walk, trot, and lope. He also came to me with scars on his legs, and I have no idea where they came from, but they cause him no pain. Goose is up-to-date on West Nile, EEE, WEE, and rabies vaccines. He recently had his teeth floated in May 2025, which was also when his last vaccines were administered. He had one adverse reaction to a vaccine a few years ago, and I believe that was to the tetanus vaccine. He also typically runs about 10 weeks between farrier trims.
Overall, Goose is not a beginner horse. He needs a few hours under saddle with someone who knows clear, consistent cues and can give them gently. I am a college student and haven’t had much time to work with him regularly, unfortunately, so he is a tad bit overweight. Again, Goose is not well suited for a green rider. This is a cash-only sale.
