90 Black Baldy, Red Angus, Red Baldy - Feeder / Stocker
Description
Grassy Butte, North Dakota – 90 Unweaned Steer Calves at 575 lbs, shipping October 16–25, 2026.
This is the top cut out of 115 head, coming from two long-standing ranch programs in the badlands, offering a strong, reputation set of calves with consistency and performance. The group is made up of approximately 60% Red Angus, 30% Black Baldy (true F1 Angus × Hereford), and 10% Red Baldy with Hereford influence. Calves are born in a tight 45-day window and are known for coming to town even, healthy, and making weight.
These calves originate from two complementary cowherds. The Red Angus herd has been developed through a strict AI program, focusing on maternal strength, consistency, and long-term genetic improvement, with all replacement heifers retained in the program. The Black Angus herd is bred to Baumgarten Hereford bulls, producing growthy, high-performing F1 calves with added heterosis. Both herds run moderate-framed cows (1,250–1,350 lbs) built for the badlands and designed to deliver a productive, easy-fleshing calf.
Calves are medium framed, deep-bodied, and carry a good amount of natural flesh (BCS ~4), even through fluctuating weather conditions. They are raised on native range, regrowth hay meadows, and winter feeding programs utilizing long-stem and chopped hay, with full mineral and supplemental protein when needed. This is a somewhat uneven set (±20%), typically requiring a 7–12% sort, but backed by a strong reputation for uniformity and performance.
Cattle are knife cut at branding in May and follow a solid calfhood and pre-weaning health program including 7-Way Somnus and Vista Once. Steers are implanted. Cattle are gathered off pasture, sorted, and weighed straight on the ground at Grassy Butte scale, with shipping from approximately 15 miles west of Grassy Butte, North Dakota.
This is a hardy, easy-fleshing set of calves with hybrid vigor and the kind of background that allows them to go in any direction and perform.Specifications
