    Description

Halliday, North Dakota – 202 Red Angus & Red Baldy Steer Calves at 540 lbs, shipping October 21-31. This is the top cut of 202 steers sorted from 228 head, offering buyers a reputation set of ranch-raised calves that combine uniformity, practical performance, and proven genetics. These calves come from a family ranch with roots dating back to 1930 and represent decades of disciplined genetic selection. Moderate framed, attractive, and built for efficiency, they fit a wide range of stocker and feeding programs with the kind of growth curve that allows cattle to add value as they mature. The cow herd consists primarily of Red Angus and Black Angus females weighing 1,300-1,400 pounds. Maternal ability, structural correctness, fertility, and longevity are key priorities within the breeding program. Black Baldy calves are raised from F1 cross females, adding hybrid vigor and maternal strength, while the red calves are out of a consistent Red Angus cow base and Red Angus sires. Bulls are sourced from Heart River, Waasem Red Angus, Schriefer Red Angus, and Dukart Angus programs with muscling and performance emphasized during sire selection. The result is a set of calves that are moderate in frame, deep bodied, practical in kind, and built to perform without sacrificing efficiency. Calves are born in a disciplined 60-day calving season beginning April 5 and are described as a very even set despite normal weight variation. They are knife cut at branding and have received both calfhood and pre-weaning vaccinations. Health protocols include Pyramid 5 and Vision 7 in the spring, followed by Triangle 4 + PHK, Vision 7, and Somnus in the fall. No implants have been used. These cattle are developed in western North Dakota's grass country on native range and regrowth hay meadows. Winter nutrition consists of long-stem hay supplemented with protein cake, tubs when needed, and a year-round mineral program. Raised under practical ranch conditions with good water and forage resources, they are hardy, functional calves that know how to travel and thrive. The cattle will be gathered in the morning, sorted from their dams, hauled approximately 30 miles to the Big Flat Scale at Halliday, sized, and weighed straight off the ground. Buyers looking for reputation calves with documented ranch history, maternal backing, and the ability to fit both grass and long-fed programs should find plenty to like in this offering.
