I don’t often get the opportunity to market a set of purebred Beefmaster cows like these, but I sure like this kind.
These cows have spent their lives on the Texas Gulf Coast, just a few miles from the bay, in some of the toughest conditions you’ll find—heat, humidity, marsh ground, and mosquitoes. Yet they’ve continued to stay productive and maintain excellent condition.
The rancher’s philosophy is simple: every year the cows are palpated, and if one comes up open, she goes to town. That’s why these 9 and 10-year-old cows have made it this far. They have proven themselves by raising a calf year after year.
These cows were palpated in April and are carrying calves 6 to 8 months along. They’ve been on a solid health program and were vaccinated with Vira Shield 6, VL5, and Cavalry 9, then wormed with Ivomec Plus. They will also be re-palpated and mouth checked before delivery.
The ranch calves during the summer when the grass is at its best. Historically, these cows wean a stout set of calves in the spring, with many of those calves weighing 650–750 pounds.
