Peppys GentlemanJim "Jim"
- 14.3H, 2022' sorrel AQHA gelding
Jim is a special one to us, and not just because of what he is today, but because of where he comes from and what we know he is capable of becoming. He is a full sibling to several great horses…out of a mare we absolutely loved, and he is her last baby, which makes him one we have a lot of appreciation for. One of his full siblings went on to be a true once-in-a-lifetime type of horse, and Jim is already showing every sign of having that same kind of ability, mind, and presence. From day one, he has been exceptionally good-minded - the kind that feels like he was just born broke, everything comes natrually and easy for him. He has always been willing, honest, and easy to get along with, and that has carried through every step of his training.
Jim has been used extensively outside this spring and has already been to several brandings. He has been hauled regularly to go work, doctor cattle, and check fences, and he handles real-world ranch work with a level head and a strong work ethic. He hauls great, settles in easily wherever you take him, and is the same horse every single time you saddle him. He is always willing to go put in a day’s work, but at the same time he is sweet, laid back, and easy enough that just about anyone can enjoy riding him. It is very telling that every single person who has swung a leg over him has had the same reaction within minutes — alwasy a big smile…and something like: “WOW, I really like this one.” He has a great feel underneath you and tries extremely hard to do whatever is asked of him. He meets you with effort, softness, and a willing attitude that makes him stand out. On top of that, he has a ton of athleticism and natural ability. He is very cowy, quick, and smart about how he works, making him an outstanding prospect for someone looking for a performance horse with a very real, solid foundation. He has all the tools to go on and make a big-time rope horse or barrel horse, and with the way he is bred and built, his ceiling is very high.
Despite his ability, Jim remains incredibly kind, tolerant, and easy to be around. He is the type that can step up and go do a real job, but is also forgiving and gentle enough that green or newer riders can get along with him, even at his young age. That combination is not something you find every day. Horses like this tend to stay where they go — every one of his siblings that has sold before - has never been resold, and this is the last one, which makes him a rare opportunity.
This is the kind of horse we genuinely do not mind keeping. If he is still here at the end of the year, we will be just as happy to continue using and enjoying him ourselves. We do not get these kinds very often, and he is one we truly enjoy having around. If you are looking for one to keep for the long haul - a horse with a great mind, real ability, proven outside experience, and a pedigree rooted in old-school, hard-to-find lines - then Jim deserves your attention!
