Case IH developed its new RB 456 and 466 HD Pro round balers for the largest producers, fitting the new high-density round balers with heavy-duty components and fewer moving parts. “We know that for farmers and contractors who use their balers a lot—typically 10,000 bales a year or more—durability and reliability are really important,” says Michal Jankowski, Case IH Product Marketing Manager. “With their needs in mind we have looked at every aspect of the baler, not only to produce the best bales from every crop quickly, but also to make sure that they get them time after time after time.”

    What’s New

Case IH produced 150,000 bales when developing and testing the new balers, and did so with a variety of crops and in different weather conditions. The RB HD Pro models also feature new, no-slip drive rolls, and with knife sets selectable from cab, the round balers can handle straw and hay, as well as haylage and silage, cut to your preferred length.

“We have completely re-designed the bale chamber and belt path to give us neatly formed, very dense bales that will stack well and efficiently,” says Jankowski. “Bale size, wraps, and density pressure can all be set up on same screen page in the cab.”

To improve reliability, Case IH gave the new HD Pro round balers a variety of rugged new additions. “We have strengthened and enlarged the rolls, shafts, and tailgate and introduced a more powerful gearbox and driveline—which also increases the numbers of bales per hour,” says Jankowski. “In some places we have simplified things to help reliability and maintenance, for example reducing the number of driveline chains and sledge rolls.”

    Bale Size Options

The RB456 HD Pro produces 47.2-inch (120-centimeter)-wide bales that can be set to anywhere from 35.4 to 65 in. (90 to 165 cm) in diameter. The RB466 HD Pro produces the same 47.2-inch-wide bales, but provides diameter options from 35.4 to 74.8 in. (90 to 190 cm). Case IH offers three rotor options on each baler, including a feeding rotor, one with 13 knives, or one with 25 cutter knives, for a total of six models.
